The IRS Get Taken for a $1 Billon
Not only did they get taken, they got taken for $1 billion. Are billions the new millions or something? It seems everything of monetary value these days are in the billions like that a small number. Anyway, it seems the IRS issued $1 billion in fake tax refunds last year, I know my loyal readers or clients aren’t concerned with this but I thought I would report it anyway really because the numbers are huge and kinda surprise me. Check this out, in 2006 & 2007 the gov-ment issued more than $470 billion in refunds eventhough there were quite a few lucky individuals that slide through and came up on some extra cash, they stopped $1.2 billion in fradulent refunds and plan to prosecute.
Fradulent refunds usually are prepared with fake W2 forms or some other false financial documentation. In 2005 they lost $412 million and in 2006 supposedly there were “technical difficulties”, with the system they have in place to catch these type of returns, which delayed the process and only $189 million were stopped while they paid out $894 million. I told you these were some BIG numbers. I never knew so many people would risk playing with the gov-ment, it seems the ones detected are of higher dollar value and probably so easily spotted, the punishment can be jail time but it normally comes back to haunt those when they actually do work and are expecting a BIG refund. I’ve seen it and it can be cruel because they really need the money. But like I stated earlier, I know my loyal readers or clients aren’t concerned and wouldn’t dare but are just interested in the numbers, RIGHT?
